Mr. Linden’s Library
By: Julia, Justin, and Drew
One day a girl named Katie Johnson goes to a library in Bismarck, North Dakota. She goes to the mystery section. There is a mysterious book with a strange cover. The book has no title. She thinks it is interesting, so she goes to check it out. It is the year 1997. She has blonde hair and green eyes. Katie is thirteen and very kind and caring.
The librarian, Mr. Linden, tells her, “Do not read this book after midnight.” When she walks out of the library, there is a man in black who scares her and makes her forget what the librarian said. The man in black notices the cover of the book. He had seen that same book before on another case! He was determined to find out who was behind all the trouble.
Mr. Linden acts kind and loving. He is 50 years old and has long, black hair. He has a daughter named Lucy. Lucy Linden is Katie’s best friend. She is 12 years old with straight, brown hair. Lucy is a sensitive girl.
When Katie gets home she starts reading the book. After a little while, Lucy comes over to play with Katie. They have a good time and when Lucy leaves, Katie goes back upstairs to read the book. She sees a big chocolate bar sitting right on top of her nightstand. She thinks it is Lucy’s because she does not remember ever putting a chocolate bar there or ever having a chocolate bar that big. Katie waits for Lucy to come back and get it, but Katie never sees Lucy ever again.
That night Katie reads the book while eating the chocolate bar. The chocolate bar tastes different because it has sleeping potion in it. After finishing the chocolate and reading for a little while she does not notice the time. It is midnight. Suddenly she falls asleep. He had warned her about the book. Now it was too late.
When she is sleeping her worst dreams come out of the book. They try and kill her in her sleep. A man knocks on her window to wake her up. He knew about the curse on the book. She wakes up all of the sudden and sees her worst dreams outside the window. She screams and her mom comes running to Katie’s room. “What’s going on?” asks her mom. Katie just sat there paralyzed. Her neighbor comes over because she heard the scream as well.
“What's wrong?” asked Mrs. Smith, the neighbor.
“I don’t know.” said Katie’s mom.
“I ate the chocolate bar and fell asleep.” Katie suddenly said. “When I woke up I saw something dark outside my window.”
“What was it?” asked Katie’s mom.
“I don’t know,” responded Katie.
“Who gave you the chocolate bar?” asked Mrs. Smith.
“I found it on my bed after Lucy left. Why?” replied Katie.
“Do you think maybe Lucy poisoned it to make you sleep?” Mrs. Smith wondered.
“She wouldn’t, would she?” asked Katie.
“Have you seen Lucy, recently?” asked Mrs. Smith
“No,” responded Katie.
“Well then she probably did poison it. I saw her walk out of your house today.” said Mrs. Smith.

Every night Katie reads the book and the same man wakes her up. He usually wakes her by tapping on the window right before the dreams are about to attack her. The dreams would always are pulled back in the book and Katie just goes back to sleep. She never noticed the dreams ever again.

About two weeks later she woke up from shouting and fighting noises outside. She saw her dreams swoosh outside again. She looked out her window and saw a man and Mr. Linden fighting. There were a couple neighbors already coming outside to see what all the commotion was.
Katie calls 911 and tells them to come over to her neighborhood. She tells the police that there are two men fighting. The police came over right away. They took Mr. Linden away for threatening children. He was sent to prison for the rest of his life.
